It is in the early modern times that the Great Britain became a united unity. In the middle ages, the British Isles included England, the Celtic district (Scotland, Wales and Ireland), and other little islands. Since the ancient times, England and the Celtic district were in contact with each other. After the conquest of Normandy, the association between two districts chiefly was invade and harass done by England-Norman nobles became close.It was in the 13th century that the feudal society in England was in a period of great prosperity, and greatly influenced the development of the Celtic society. During the rule of Edward I, he launched several wars upon Wales and Scotland, carried out and developed the achievements in Ireland since Henry II. The expansion of Edward I accelerated the development of feudal society in the Celtic district, promoted the association between two districts, and advanced the institution reform of taxation, military and parliament of England. In the long run, the expansion contributed to a new layout partly indicates the different ways and outcomes of the British integration in the early modern times. It is the object of the thesis.The thesis bases on the achievements of several fields, such as the history of nation, military, politics and institution, and law. The author tries to use the methods of dynamic description and static analysis to make a through analysis of the historical influence of Edward I 's expansion to England and the Celtic society. The thesis includes three sections: Preface, Text and Conclusion. The main text has three chapters, of which the third part considered the most important.Preface: A briefly introduction to the reason, background, present condition and value of the thesis.Text: Part I: The general situation of British Isles before the rule of Edward I. The author narrates the social development of England and the Celtic district, shows an intact social picture to readers.Part II: The expansion of Edward I. The author recounts the several wars which Edward I launched on Wales and Scotland.Part III: The historical meaning of Edward's expansion. The author researches the effects of Edward's expansion on several aspects through microcosmic and macroscopic angle of view.Conclusion: A summary of the three chapters.
