The Chinese modernity outspreads between two paradoxical dimensionalities:tradition and world mainstream culture. As far as the modernity is concerned, it is mainly impelled by two modernization tides, namely the tenor of the revolution and the process of the urbanization. Since the inchoation of the modern literature starting at the Wusi Era, the modern Chinese literature history substantively is a flexuose history of literature modernization. Modernization also is the general appearance , character and quality of the modern literature. The ultimate character of the modern literature is the modernity. The New Culture Movement chose the culture and literature as the breakthrough of the modernity practice, considered the literature as the fundamental and preferred strategy of the modernity practice, and made the literature bear the function of the modernization ideology. The left-wing and the revolutionary literature endowed the literature.with the function of the polotics ideology. It is the inevitable logistic result since the Wusi Era endowed the literature with the assignment of pursuing the modernity of the society. Campared with the left-wing and the revolutionary literature, there happened some kinds of swerve in the Yan An literature. The ethical and popular tendency was greatly strengthened. Such a lange-angle swerve is related with the Speech On The Yan An literature Conversazione of Mao Zedong and the situation of the revolution ang politics. It embodied a praticable and strategic intention, and also reflected the complicated attitude of Mao Zedong himself on the modernization.
