| Non-harmonic tone is a tone which is excluded in the structure of the harmonic sounding synchronously with it. Not "alien" and as an important factor in constructing beauty of form of music and increasing expressivity, non-harmonic tone affects the exterior form and interior content of music in unique way. In the study of harmonics, researches only limited to the study of various ways of expression and application of non-harmonic tone from the perspective of harmonic analysis or just to general assessment of the significance of non-harmonic tone in musical works from the aspect of melody coloratura and the addition of both tension and color of harmony, few people have further conducted case studies of the importance of non-harmonic tone in the shaping of form and the representation of musical works from the point of aesthetics, which handicapped people's recognition of non-harmonic tone to certain degree and meanwhile resulted in lone-term deficiency of study of creative techniques of tonal composers in the field of non-harmonic tone. This dissertation is a systematic study of the application of non-harmonic tone in Chopin's piano works, through which attempt is made to demonstrate from form to content the aesthetic importance of non-harmonic tone in the works of the greatest and most creative composer in music history. This dissertation comprises two chapters. In the first chapter, discussion is made about the brief history of non-harmonic tone and its general aesthetic significance in musical works. Chapter â…¡is the main body, which dissertates the functional role of non-harmonic tone in constructing melody lines with abundant beauty in form, representing specific emotion, reflecting special aesthetic ideas of the composer, etc.By study, we can perceive from longitudinal view that Chopin's application of non-harmonic tone is a breakthrough as well as an inheritance of his predecessors, which posed great influence on the progress of music of later ages;Viewing from horizontal perspective, we can see that application of non-harmonic tone constitutes organic part of composers' distinctively creative character and exerts unique importance in musical works. Non-harmonic tone shines great brilliance from melody to harmonic, from the formulation of beauty of form to the embodiment of expressivity, etc. Research on this program will not only open a new perspective for the study of Chopin's composing skill, but also facilitate us to understand fully and objectively the great contributions of this composer in the fields of melodies and harmonics, etc, and meanwhile to have a profound knowledge of the importance of non-harmonic tone in representing music. |
