| The Jin Shu compiled in Tang dynasty massively selects materials from Shi Shuo Xin Yu, which arouses much unfavorable commons. Its argument standards are mainly based on historical data and biography writing. However, from the literature angle, Jin Shu absorbs artistic characteristics of featuring description from some good historical biography works like Shi-Ji and Han-Shu, so some of its people biography is very well-written. This thesis deals with the quotation from Shi Shuo Xin Yu in Jin Shu's material, and studies the positive function that Shi Shuo Xin Yu plays in the developing of historical biography.The first chapter summarizes the present study on Shi Shuo Xin Yu, in particular its relationship with Jin Shu.The second chapter carefully studies how Jin Shu quotes materials from Shi Shuo Xin Yu. Based on both subjective and objective reasons, it analyzes two conditions of quoting: single items' quoting and individual biography's quotation. Also, it verdicts the gains and lost of the quoting.Taking the view of historical biography writing, chapter three analyzes the relationship between Jin Shu and Shi Shuo Xin Yu, and the function Shi Shuo Xin Yu makes in the developing of historical biography. By comparing Ruanji's Life and Jikang's Life in Jin Shu and San Guo Zhi respectively, it analyzes the language and artistic characteristics of Jin Shu under the influence of Shi Shuo.The ending reaches the conclusion of this thesis: owing to appropriate quotation of materials from Shi Shuo Xin Yu, Jin Shu has made great success in the historical biography writing, and has inherited and developed the fine traditions of historical biography literature, with several feature wring being as good as some excellent works of the same category. Shi Shuo Xin Yu has played an important role in this process. |
