The self has special influence on memory. The memory will get better effect when it is related with the self. This is named self reference effect(ab. SRE) by Rogers. Some researchers who use R/K paradigm to study SRE find that SRE only reflects on R reaction which is based on recollection. But recently some cognitive neuroscientists find self-reference at least concerns two memory systems: episodic memory and semantic memory. The purpose of this research is to prove that the advantage of SRE only reflects on explicit memory. On the contrary, the effect that related with the self is worse in implicit memory. Two experiments which separately used priming - type and recognizing-type experimental schedule of PDP test the contributions of conscious and unconscious retrieval under different coding ways. The results show the advantage of SRE doesn't occur in implicit memory.
