The early years of the Republic of China refers to the period from the year when it was founded to 1928 in which all parts of China united in form under the Nanking Republic government, whose obvious characteristic was political instability, composed of the foundation of republic, the reactionary rule of the Northern Warlord and the rebellious battles waged by the advanced revolutionary power. The dissertation chooses social titles, a part of Chinese vocabulary related intimately to the changes in society, as analytical objects, so as to reveal the mutual relation between language and society by means of the analysis of those representative titles in the politics of that time.The method of research, based on the wide collection of materials and qualitative analysis, laid stress on the probe into those titles connecting with political events in then society. And by this way, the dissertation deeply explores those representative titles with outstanding characteristics of the times, and descriptively analyzes the social titles reflecting contemporary historical events, in order to conclude the general regulation of mutual movement and transformation of language and society through concrete examples.The structure in order of time rendering those important historical events as its outline tries to seek out the most expressive titles, to analyses the political changes of that time, and to depict the roughly shape of those titles relevant to them, so as to probe the basic relationship of mutual movement between language and society.
