Huang Ting Ching is an early classic in Daoism, which is regarded as one of the five sutras in Daoism. The extant Huang Ting Ching includes: Huang Ting Nei Jing Ching, Huang Ting Wai Jing Ching, Huang Ting Zhong Jing Ching. Generally we think Huang Ting Zhong Jing Ching appeared later than the other two, so Huang Ting Ching that we often mention doesn't include Zhong Jing Ching. Nei Jing Ching and Wai Jing Ching appeared in western and eastern Jin Dynasties. It was said that the two books were handed down by Mrs. Wei Huacun. Huang Ting Ching contains different thoughts, such as religion, medical science, physiology, Qigong and preserving health, which describes the thoughts of preserving health and cultivating vital energy in poetry. As an early sutra in Daoism, Huang Ting Ching had a profound influence on later Daoism. Although it is difficult to understand Huang Ting Ching totally, many people favored it very much, such as Daoists, alchemists, literators and medical doctors. In past dynasties, this classic was regarded as the most important book, according to which people could become immortal. So we can understand the value and place of this book. The thought of preserving health in Huang Ting Ching carried on the theories of visceral manifestations and keeping good health. In Huang Di Nei Ching, Laozi He Shang Gong Zhang Ju and Tai Ping Ching.Huang Ting Ching described the appearances, the colors and the functions of the inner organs in human body. These ideas are the same with traditional Chinese medicine. Huang Ting Ching adopted the theory of visceral manifestations to perfect its own system of preserving health. Huang Ting Ching belongs to the classic of Qing Xiu School, which put much emphasis on leading a secluded life with abstinence. This is the most important way of preserving health. Huang Ting Ching carried on the idea that in human body different organ was charged by different God, which appeared in ancient books, such as Tai Ping Ching. The most important five Gods are charging the five internal organs. Therefore, Huang Ting Ching paid great attention to the meditation on the five Gods of internal organs. This way of meditation was very popular since Jin Dynasty. Not only meditating on the internal organs, Hung Ting Ching also meditating on the outer nature, such as sun, moon, stars, mountains and clouds. In fact, this meditation is the cultivation between human and heaven. I will discuss the thougts of preserving health and cultivating vital energy in Huang Ting Ching in order to prove the contribution and the influence of Huang Ting Ching. After the Shang Qing School, Huang Ting Ching became the classic of Mao Shan School and it was very popular in other Daoism schools. Huang Ting Ching was brought into the Daoism Canon, Dong Xuan part. The appearance of Huang Ting Ching not only injected new thoughts intothe development of Daoism, but influenced Daoism in the later ages.Until now, there are not so many special books or papers disscussing Huang Ting Ching. Only Chen Yingning and some few scholars made researches on Huang Ting Ching. Although Huang Ting Ching contains a lot of ideas, it is hard to find a book or paper focused on preserving health and cultivating vital energy of Huang Ting Ching. The language of Huang Ting Ching is difficult to be understood, I will try to use the simplest and clearest words to express my points so that this paper is easy to be understood. In this paper, I will use some methods for the discussion, such as the method of materialism, logic, induction, deduction, anthropology and philology.
