Li Jui-ching(1867—1920),whose courtesy name was Zhonglin,was a Chinese educator,calligrapher and artist.He could be also known by his pseudonyms,such as Yunong,Meian and Ching Tao-jen.Li Jui-ching was born in the Linchuan County of Jiangxi Province in 1867.He was awarded the highest degree—Jinshi in the Chinese Imperial Examination in 1985.And he was selected as Shujishi,a member of the highest office.Throughout the following years,Li Jui-ching held a variety of government positions in the Qing dynasty.After the end of Qing dynasty,Li Jui-ching still called himself the adherent of Qing dynasty and became a Taoist.So he took refuge in Shanghai and lived by selling books and calligraphic works.Because of the Manchu Restoration of July 1917,Li Jui-ching was conferred a government position again.Li Jui-ching was proficient in calligraphy,especially the seal character and official script,which made him very popular in his early years.Along with Zeng Xi from Hengyang of Hunan Province,he was frequently called“South ZENG and North Li".In addition,Li Jui-ching also excelled in the poems and essays.In his remaining years,he lived in Shanghai and kept in close contact with the adherents of Qing dynasty from Shanghai and Qingdao.This thesis will describe Li Ruiqing' s stories and his lifetime tracks to show the situations and features of the late Qing dynasty,through collecting and researching his poems,essays,prefaces and postscripts and relevant documents,including archives,diaries,local records,biographies,letters and sketchbooks.This thesis can be an example of so-called“Understanding the writers and their times". |
