| In recent years, the periodical study has been becoming a hotpot in the academic field. Not only these periodicals being greatly influential in culture and literature, such as New Youths, the Magazine Novel Monthly, Modern, but also some small periodicals being little known, such as Women World, New Poetry Tide , the World of Human Being , the Front , are successively entered the researcher's visual field. But I'm sorry to see that the study of some important presses is almost a blank which have special historical positions in the popular movement of literature. Particularly, nobody cares about Popular Literature up to now which had a great effect on the popular movement of literature in 20 centuries 30's. The magazine started publication in 1928 when the May 4th new cultural movement was going toward the movement of Zuoyi literature, and it is the first witness person that saw how the popular movement of literature were gradually became a big cultural and literature current of thought in 20 centuries 20-30's . At the same time, because of its diligence, the popular literature and the popular movement of literature also became two acceptable academic terms of literature and the current of thought by the Chinese literature field in this period, therefore, Popular Literature has the special historical position in the Chinese literary history and the history of thoughts of 20 centuries. Based on the special position and functions in the popular movement of literature, the Chinese literary history and the history of thoughts of 20 centuries, This text try to retry the original historical data, restore its history appearance so as to give new answer to coarse parts of the old research and an appropriate evaluation on it's history function. Meanwhile, I hope to investigate the born characteristic of the popular movement of literature with the case of Popular Literature. This thesis is divided into three parts:Chapter 1 Winds and clouds rose again: the establishment and transformation of Popular LiteratureThe task of this chapter is to comb the historical data related to Popular Literature, and open out the historical facts on the establishment and transformation of Popular Literature by the history research method. The establishment of Popular Literature was highly relevant that Yu Dafu had a gnawing regret to leave the Group of Creation and was attracted by the late Group of Creation in the controversy on Revolutionary literature. Yu Dafu's original intention was against to the late Group of Creation's attack to him and ambition monopolizing the literature field. Because the springboard of Yu Dafu publishing Popular Literature was based on the argument for personal feelings, which resulted that the main purpose of his editor policy was against the late Group of Creation, and his understanding on what was and how to write the popular literature was also blurry, although Popular Literature had a unique name, the excessive copy on May 4th literatures inundated the original quality that this magazine should have originally, which make it hard to mark own independent stance with a kind of new literature type, and did not produce a work really belonging to the public. After Tao Jingsun was charge of Popular Literature and passed by two period magazine to sound out, he started to sparkplug definitely the popular literature and the literature's popularizing, and inaugurate an issue on the new literature contained long 1300 pages in the third, forth periods of Volume 2, in which two large-scale conversations by writing and two symposiums on the popular problem of literature were come respectively off to discuss popular theories and produce works of popular literature. Tao Jingsun made out outstanding contribution for constructing the pattern of the popular literature and promoting the popular movement of literature in 20 centuries 20-30's.Chapter 2 The curtain opened: the contention on Popular Literature and the elementary outspread of the popular movement of literature in 20 centuries 30's.The task of the chapter is to take apart the contention on and the process of the elementary outspread of the popular movement of literature in this period. The contention on popular literature between Yu Dafu and the Creation Association looked like the problem which road the modern literature should head for (the former emphasized that the literature was for the people and of the people, the latter then thought that Yu Dafu intended to substitute the popular people for the class people.) But the on-looker then thought that their contestation was concerned with contending for the site of the literature field in fact. The site to contend for was not only relevant to parties'vested interests ,such as their position in the literary world, their income etc, but also reflected the contestation of the publisher's capital benefits in Shanghai in 1930's. Along with the Creation Association being closed down and Left-Wing League establishing, there were any conclusions when their contestation was over. At the same time, after Tao Jingsun was charge of popular literature, he sparked plug actively the popular literature and the literature's popularizing, the left-wing literature field began gradually to accord on the popular problem of literature, so the terms of the popular literature and the literatures'popularizing was acknowledged gently by the literature field and the thought field.Chapter 3 The beautiful dream was difficult to become reality: the modernity of the popular movement of literature and its embarrassment.The task of this chapter is mainly to illustrate my evaluation on the popular movement of literature in the visual angle of Popular Literature. At first, I looked the literature popular movement of the Chinese literature from the late Qing Dynasty as a production of the progress of Chinese modernization and its modernity. The popular movement of literature sparked plug by Popular Literature, however, was also in the progress. To some extent, the tool rationality of literature popularizing foreclosed the art development of the popular literature. At the same time, studying the cultural history appearance of Popular Literature, we could find easily that the popular literature and the literature popularize were nonstandard literary concepts in the context of modern culture, establishing these concepts more was not pure literature power but some factors of the society culture. Moreover, in this discussion of the problem of literature popularizing, because the topics of discussion were always in the variety, various literature powers and such non-literature power as political also got involved in the contestation, which made it meaningful but difficult to discuss clearly. Besides, the culture level of the reader preconceived by popular literature was low very much, and those culture buying expectations might hardly be lost sight of. In sort, because of many factors, it became good wishes to carry out the literature popularizing. |
