As an unusual phenomenon in the history of modern Chinese literature, Wumingshuwritten by Wumingshi, is receiving more and more attention andcomments. Many critics and scholars have endorsed its romantic character and measured off its genre. But in my opinion, to such a great work with the soul-epic nature, it is not enough to analyze and discuss its romantic character and genre only, but to further explore its romanticism spiritual idiosyncrasy: Wumingshi holds high a banner of unique romanticism, establishes a new value of life and creates a super-era "new religion." Such a great mission makes Wumingshu a very important work with a thick rational color. Unlike traditional romanticism literature, it does not emphasize instinct and non-rational emotion, intuition, enthusiasm and imagination, but pursues a kind of "rationality" to promote instinct and to purify emotion. Romanticism of this kind explores toughly on the fundamental issue of the survival of mankind and ponders individual life and mankind's ultimate fate. So I would rather call it "sacred romanticism" so as to differ it from "passionate romanticism" and "pseudo-romanticism."Wumingshu is not only a counteraction to the 1940s' mainstream literature but also a helpful revelation to our current literary creation: no matter how the time changes and the literary form advances, a valuable literature must be based on national culture, explain the ultimate question of humanity from different perspectives and lead the world towards "Eternity."...
