| Since the 1980s, with the development of China's market economy, the culturalinstitution has been adjusted accordingly and the cultural pattern of entire community haschanged. Under this social context, popular culture and various youth sub-culture graduallygain their status and make their own voice. Based on the New Concept CompositionContest, from the socio-economic, cultural, institutional perspective, the presentdissertation analyses the production, operation and final form of culture, which takes youthas the main body,and provides a unique case to understand the current social and culturaldevelopment.The first chapter analyses the socio-economic, cultural context of the New ConceptComposition Contest. From the aspects of market economy and education system, thischapter tries to show the close relationship between the contest and the socio-economic,cultural context. The second chapter analyses the cultural operating logic of the NewConcept Composition Contest, and go deeply into the internal part of the contest toanatomize the deep notional framework of this cultural activity. The third chapter presentsthe cultural achievement of New Concept Composition Contest, focusing on its revelationof a new cultural pattern and impact on current youth and popular culture and, ultimately,returns to the"individual", who act as the subject of the contest, analyzing culturalconnotation of the new personality implicated by such cultural pattern. Therefore, in thecomplex context of economic, culture, institution and individual, the present dissertationreveals the role of the New Concept Composition Contest in the formation of the newcultural pattern. |
