The periodical research on People's Literature is one of the hotspots in academia in recent years, but the relevant results mainly concentrated on the rereading texts before the year of 1976. Based on interdisciplinary research methods of mass culture theory and mass communication, the dissertation makes an overall investigation of the novels' production and dissemination during the 20 years of "New Era" combining with the traditional literary studies. It tries to reveal media power of the ecological reconstruction of literature in the new era from the perspective of examining the cultural field of literature and the media. Specifically, this dissertation deals with social processes of New Era's novels from the research field of dissemination, including its production, dissemination and consumption. It focuses on the novels and reviews published on People's Literature and elaborates the following aspects: social politics, economy, cultural leadership, media and literary system, social environment, media and writers' mentality, and chief-editor's ideas and published novels' principles, periodicals operation and novel production, dissemination, and readers' cultural consumption and the acceptance of Novels and so on. Through the above study, the dissertation reveals political and social functions of People's Literature, which plays an intermediary role in shaping the writers group of New Era and has great influence on the spiritual life of literary circles and the public. Many historic and realistic factors have contributed to the formation of new novel mechanism production and mode of transmission. It participates in the New Era's ecological reconstruction of Chinese literature as the dual role of both literary media and literature producer.
