Tao Wu Free Evaluation Of Narrative Art

This paper made a systematic research on the narrative art in the novel Tao Wu Xian Ping from two aspects, the design of plots and the portrayal of characters. It consists of two chapters.The preface summarizes the history and present situation of the research on the novel Tao Wu Xian Ping, and it also states the purpose of choosing the topic as well as the main research methods.Chapter One analyses the novel's achievements and deficiencies in the design of plots. Section One reveals that the author tended to deal with the story reasonably while applying the same story from other novels to his novel. Section Two discusses that the author designed the novel as a whole with coordinating the beginning and end while arranging it. Section Three points out the author organized the story according to the clues of historical time and seasonal changing, which has a positive effect on the design of plots; this section also makes it clear that it is the author's being not sensitive to the differences of the seasons that has a negative influence on the plot development in the last half part of the novel. Section Four firstly researches how the author dealt with fictional and historical events, and then shows that using both fictional and historical events skillfully makes the novel believable as well as romantic. Section Five sums up the main points of Chapter One.Chapter Two takes the examples of Wei Zhongxian, Ke Yinyue and Hou Qiuhong to analyse the novel's achievements and shortages in the portrayal of characters. Section One researches the inherited relations in detail among the four novels, Tao Wu Xian Pin, Jing Shi Yin Yang Meng, Huang Ming Zhong Xing Sheng Lie Zhuan and Wei Zhongxian Novel Chi Jian Shu, which share the same story. Based on the research, this section points out the image of Wei Zhongxian in Tao Wu Xian Pin is more concrete, lively and individual. But because the text was combined by some materials and the author had the concept tendency in writing, the characters' personalities were not so consistent in the novel. Section Two points out Ke Yinyue is one of the characters emphatically portrayed in the novel. The author made up many stories creatively to make this character's image individual to some extent, which surpassed generally describing the character in the other novels with the same story. Section Three analyses the unique personality of Hou Qiuhou, and points out the concept tendency in the portrayal of characters. Section Four sums up the main points of this chapter.
