Plaque Qing Dynasty Cultural Studies

Bian'e has a long history and plays an important role in Chinese traditional culture.But very little research has been devoted to this field currently.This thesis can be considered as preliminary research and exploration of the culture of Bian'e in Qing dynasty,which based on materials in Jiangxi province and surrounding areas as well as on ancient literature,historical documents and modern monograph.This research paper attempts to use methods of cross disciplines to study the culture of Bian'e,by which way to interpret the historical cultural phenomena and reconstruct part of the living conditions in Qing dynasty.I hope establish a classified system on Biane's form and content through this study.Meanwhile I expect to compensate the inadequacies of this research areas and make up for the gaps in academic by my in-depth discussion about the cultural connotation of Bian'e.First,the preface expatiates on the history of Bian'e,reviews the status of academic development and presents the main ideas as well as content of this thesis. Then the paper analyses the external characteristics of Bian'e in three aspects,the classification,the content,the form of art.The classification was based on the material,shapes and function.While the content include diction as well as inscriptions and signatures,which can be subdivided into different sorts according to people who inscribed on them and who accepted them.The part of art's form essentializes the calligraphy and ornamentation of Bian'e.The article turns to focus on the research of cultural,historical and social meaning of Bian'e in chapter three.I take the family and clan as research units on cultural content of Bian'e and in this chapter we discuss Chinese traditional culture of respect for the elderly,fealty,filial piety and moral integrity.It also dissertates the reward system and imperial examination system.At last,the paper gives a summary on the culture of Bian'e and raises unresolved problems.All materials used in this thesis are tabled in appendix.All examples gave in paper have respective number for checking in the table conveniently.The English letters are the abbreviation of concrete period in Qing and the numbers are their order. Meanwhile,the paraphrase of examples are also in appendix.All the materials used in this thesis are collected by Shanghai Hanlin Bian'e Museum.
