Inner Mongolia, Mongolian Place Names Into Chinese

This thesis aims at discussing the existing problems and the standardization of Chinese translations of Mongolian geographic names, based on the current situation of one Mongolian geographic name has various Chinese translations.The present research consists of five parts.Part one briefly introduces the geographic names and their characteristics, the previous studies, rationale and objects of the research. The second part, that is, chapter one, discusses the main features of Chinese translations of Mongolian geographic names. Chapter two generalizes the present situation of Chinese translation of Mongolian geographic names by recording the Chinese characters occurring in the Chinese-Mongolian Dictionary of Inner Mongolia Geographic Names. Chapter three analyzes the existing problems in Chinese translation of the frequently used Mongolian geographic names by giving examples. The last part, that is, the conclusion, provides author's ideas on how to standardize the Chinese translations of Mongolian geographic names.
