In Chinese modern art history, the success of the first national art exhibition had a significant effect on Art. Since the modern time, with the effect of the western art style, the traditional concept of Chinese art started to change gradually, the western style which was majored by public displace had replaced the old style that based on the exchanges of the scholars in small group. It also promoted the successful transformation of China's art criticism, which led Chinese art criticism to the modern way. In the period of germination, Chinese art criticism began to develop rapidly due to the relatively relax academic environment. The materials based on around the first national art exhibition was sorted out and analyzed through this paper, which has come to a conclusion: the first national art exhibition brought about the development of Chinese modern criticism which had entered the budding period, and the profound influence on the later Chinese art.
