Differences In Face Recognition And Memory Of The East And West

Face is the most significant features of symbols, which convey information in human social life. Face recognition research will be considered from the basic laws of face processing. It not only helps us with explaining many phenomena associated with face recognition in a scientific way but also help to understand the patterns and rules of human visual processing. It provides a new reference for the application of cognitive psychology. We often feel that face of other nation almost similar. Over time, compared with the own, we got a poor memory of other ethnic people face. This phenomenon is known as "other face effect". At present, the legal profession and psychologists have recognized the existence of it, but its explanation and its work mechanism has remained elusive.Previous studies focused on the recognition rate and the activation of different brain regions. Other factors such as, face direction, familiarity, and cognitive characteristics were ignored. In order to provide some evidence and supplement for the dual process model and eye movement study, we set three different difficulty tasks to reveal the factor of other face effect. On the one hand, we can enrich the visual information processing mechanism through compare the cognitive process of the correct recognition and the wrong one. On the other hand, we can find some eye movement evidence of right judgement and wrong judgement to offer empirical basis for practice.Experiment one is a discrimination task. It required the subjects discriminate the race of the faces in a limited time, compared the reaction time and accuracy to find the effect of different presentation and different familiarity. Experiment two use learning-recognition pattern. In the study phase subjects were required to determine the sex of face and remember them. To examine the learning process the information in the load characteristics to improve the processing of faces, or interfere with the integration of target information. The third experiment use priming paradigm. It required subjects to determine whether the target face is associated with the word appeared at the same time. We recorded the subject's eye movement and accuracy to identify the portrait of the eye movement and priming familiar faces of different races to identify the predictors.Comprehensive results of the three experiments which supports the following conclusions:①No matter what race the face is, the response of the celebrities are shorter; the correct reaction time to Eastern is significant shorter to Western.②The accuracy of determine the normal face is higher than the inverted one; on the East face of racial perception accuracy celebrities than ordinary people's judgments, but the West should be the opposite. Show judge of the family are familiar with the care of people.③The learning result is better to the family strangers face and the recognition of women is faster. Pretty face may exist on the processing advantages of processing effect.④Words for the face recognition is being launched to provide effective clues to be tested on the face and check with a short time.⑤The word did not prompt the inverted face recognition.
