Myanmar is located in the western Indochina, shared northeastern border withChina, Laos and Thailand to the southeast and adjoining northwest India andneighboring Bangladesh, southwest of the Andaman Sea and the Indian Ocean on theverge of the Bay of Bengal. Myanmar is the hub linking China and South Asia,Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean region countries, its geostrategic value isself-evident. Myanmar is also an integral part of China’s diplomacy, its stability is notonly related to the security and stability in southwest China, but also a more directimpact on the smooth development of China’s "Belt And Road" strategy. Research andanalysis of the development of Myanmar’s foreign policy has important significance,to develop the friendly relations between China and Myanmar, stabilize the securitysituation in China surrounding areas, deepen cooperation between China andSoutheast Asian countries and so.Since independence in 1948, Myanmar has gone through U Nu’s parliamentgovernment, Ne Win’s military government, and the new military government. Inforeign policy, Myanmar successive governments primarily pursue an policy ofneutrality and independent. Since 2009, with the change of the political situation inMyanmar, the US-led Western countries began to adjust the policy on Myanmar torelease some of the sanctions, the external environment of Myanmar began toimprove. April 1, 2011, Myanmar went into the elected government led by TheinSein, with the ease relations with Western countries, Myanmar’s foreign policy, therehave been some adjustments. After the politic transition, Myanmar new governmenteagers to improve relations with Western countries, in exchange for Western countriesto completely lift the sanctions against Burma for over 20 years,and to improve thecountry’s image in Myanmar. Affected by this, Relations between China andMyanmar twists and turns.However, by reviewing the history of Myanmar’s foreign policy, this paperargues, independent, neutral, flexible Myanmar’s foreign policy has always beendistinctive features. In the foreseeable future, no matter how the international anddomestic situation changes, by geopolitical factors and historical tradition, Myanmar’sforeign policy will continue to uphold the traditional doctrine of neutrality; this willnot harm the long-term development of China-Myanmar relations.Thesis is divided into five parts. Introduction focuses on the purpose,significance and domestic and foreign research status. The main body of this papercontains four chapters, The first chapter, introducing and analyzing the transitionprocess in Myanmar, status and influence; second chapter combing the developmentof Myanmar’s foreign policy since independence; The third chapter, summarizingcharacteristics and causes of Myanmar’s foreign policy after the politic transformation;Chapter IV, Analysis of the future development of Myanmar’s foreign policy andMyanmar’s transition impact on its relation with china, and I will make my ownsuggestion to maintain and develop the relation between China and Myanmar in thenew situation.
