In the 2010 British General Election, the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats carried out the political choices through negotiation, and thus successfully established one of the few coalition governments in the history of the UK. As the characteristic of the first term of Cameron’s government, the coalition government has greatly influenced the British diplomatic affairs and policy to China. Based on the diplomatic practice and the basic tendency of policy towards China since Cameron took office, the paper attempts to take the factor of coalition government as the perspective in the foreign policy analysis, and carry out the analysis of Cameron’s government’s policy towards China accordingly. Both the two parties of the Cameron’s coalition government focus on supporting human rights. Although the Sino-British economics and trade relations are emphasized in the association with China, issues of human rights will frequently be mentioned to provoke China.Especially the meeting between Cameron and Clegg with Dalai Lama in 2012, which caused the Sino-British relations into deadlock once. However, as China has been playing an irreplaceable role in the international economic and political pattern, the UK has to take a more positive and practical attitude to treat China. In the latter half of the first term of Cameron’s government, it began to adjust the policy towards China and struggled to eliminate the negative consequences of meeting Dalai Lama and the intervention of the human rights issue in China. Furthermore, it comprehensively carried out the cooperation with China in different domains, as well as made use of the influence on the EU to help China improve the cooperation with the Europe that promoted the development of EU-China relations.
