Based on harmonious rural society construction, this thesis first introduces the left-behind children group and analyzes the causes resulting in this problem—such as the dual household register system, slow development of agriculture, high cost of education, the imperfect welfare system and so on. It also reveals the problems the children are facing. Most of them are living a hard life and can not get necessary nutrition for their health. Their life safety is facing danger. Some of them got drowned, burnt while working or hurt by others, some committed suicide. They also have problems in study. They can't get necessary tutoring they need. Some of them have dropped off. They have psychological problems such as low self-esteem, unsociability, depression, or over- self-respect even hysteria. They have problems of morality, too. Without enough guidance, the children's ill behaviors may develop into immoral problems even illegal actions. The existence of these problems has ill effects on constructing a harmonious rural society. First, they affect rural families' harmony and stability. Second, the peasant workers enthusiasm to work in cities may go down. Third, they may affect the social order of rural society. Fourth, they may have ill effects on the development of new rural society. Fifth, the future quality of rural population may be affected. Finally in this thesis, some possible measures are presented: Change the present household system to make it possible for rural children to study in cities; Reasonable allocation of education resources between countryside and cities; Set up a perfect social security system to reduce the number of floating peasants; Improve peasant workers' social position; Offer training services to peasant workers in working skills and children's education; Build more boarding schools in the country, providing a "home" for left-behind children; Improve the role of rural communities to help the children; Develop non-agricultural economy to speed up urbanization; Build well-off villages in an all-around way. It is hoped that this study can provide some reference for solving the problems of left-behind children.
