1995-2009 College Graduates Media Image. "china Youth Daily" Study

Since 270000 graduates who took part in the first college entrance examination in 1978 left school in 1981,China's graduates in 2010 has reached 6310000.Our country's higher education has had a remarkable progress in all these thirty years, especially in 1999 when high school of the whole country began their expansion process.From then on, our country's higher education has gradually changed from elite education to popular education.Because of the boom of the graduates's number,the reform of the distribution system and the new situation of the employment market,problems of the graduates has becoming more and more serious,which was sharpened by financial crisis in1999.Recent years,there were various news reports in media,such as the graduate of Peking University sold pork,graduates cleaned excrement or collected waste, graduates worked as waiter,or even committed crimes.In September,2009, a postdoctoral named LianSi of Peking University led a subject team and interviewers conducted a social survey of the graduates of the low-income group,which first proposed the concept "ants tribe" to represent the graduates of the low-income group.From then on, Media across the country tried their best to report the the "ants tribe" and the "God's favored one" was quickly taken place by the "ants tribe" on media.At the same time, many problems of college graduates were enlarged.Right now,the "ants tribe" has became one of the most representative noun of graduates.However,has the "God's favored one" really taken place by the "ants tribe" after the historical transformation that higher education has already changed from elite education to polular education?If so,how did this process been presented by media?This study uses content analysis to present a clear and complete image of graduates on media during 15 years (1995-2009),show what factors involved in the process of building the image of this group,and dicuss the deep social and historical reason why the image of college graduates changed, which makes the research of the image of graduates who has experienced the change from elite education to polular education on media rise to a higher and comprehensive level,so as to provide valuable reference to media to truly reappear graduates'media image and to policymakers for grasping problems of graduates.
