The Historical and Geographical School of NHNS (Nanjing Higher Normal School) built in the twenty twenties. It contributes a lot to the historical and geographical study, as well as history teaching of middle school. It put forward lots of education reform proposals and tries it’s best to apply.There are four factors which effect NHNS Historical and Geographical School to participate in the study of history teaching of middle school. First, NHNS respect Chinese traditional culture, and history is the carrier of traditional culture, so they pay attention to the history teaching. Second, the primary cause is that the school emphasizes the importance of study for application not of academy. Third, the fundamental reason is that, at that time, history teaching of middle school existed lot sorts of problems. Fourth, in the beginning of the20th century, the Chinese Renaissance and the New Education Movement bring history theory of Robinson’s New History School and education theory of the Progressive Education Thought movement to the school.The activities of NHNS Historical and Geographical School in the field about history teaching of middle school mainly have two forms. First is the research work, the school set up some journals, like the Journal of Historical and Geographical Society, the Journal of Historical and Geographical and the Journal of History. We can see many articles about history teaching of middle school. We can also see such articles in the Journal of Teaching and Learning, the Journal of Education. These articles relate to the purposes of history education, the compilation of history textbooks and the teaching methods. Second is the written of high school history curriculum standard. As the principal members of the school, Xu Ze-ling and Chen Xun-ci were able to participate in the preparation of the1923and1929high school history curriculum standards. It’s also an opportunity to practice its educational philosophy.The thoughts of NHNS Historical and Geographical School reach a high theoretical level. However, the practicing of the high school history curriculum standards of1923and1929is not ideal. There are some reasons, improper compilation as well as social and political factors. Lessons should be learned.
