Research On The Development Of Chinese Wheelchair Basketball And Its Social Value

The disabled are vulnerable groups in society, but they and able-bodied people enjoy the same life, learning, work opportunities, the whole society should give them enough attention. As an important part of social sports, sports for the disabled have been increasingly recognized and emphasized by governments, and they are regarded as a window to show their own spiritual civilization construction and the protection of human rights and to expand the international influence. Wheelchair basketball is a basketball sport of disabled people in a wheelchair and is one of the most favorite sports for the audience. But at present wheelchair basketball level in our country is not high, and there is a big gap between the developed countries and our country. The related research is also very little, which restricts the development of wheelchair basketball in china. As an independent cultural form, wheelchair basketball itself has a strong social value, and it can be shown in politics, economy, education, culture and technology etc.This paper takes the national wheelchair basketball tournament athletes in 2014 as the research object, using the method of literature, expert interviews, questionnaire survey method, mathematical statistics method, logic analysis method, video observation method. From the current development situation of China’s wheelchair basketball in a wheelchair, basketball’s social value can be discovered. And the conclusions are as following:(1) The current situation of the development of wheelchair basketball is not ideal in China. The number of teams is less than 30, and many of them are not stable enough, so they always face the risk of dissolution. The level of athletes is not high, either. Both the quantity and the quality have a big gap with the developed countries. The attention from the relevant departments is low and the media propaganda is not enough. And also the lack of funding leads the generally poor training conditions for the teams. Carrying out fewer competitions, the athletes’ age, lack of reserve forces, the low level of professional coaches seriously influenced the development of wheelchair basketball in china.(2) Wheelchair basketball has considerable social value, which is mainlymanifested in education, culture, politics, rehabilitation, technology and economic aspects.(3) Whether it is from the angle of the CDPF, Sports Bureau and other relevant departments, or from the social point of view, certain attention and support should be given to the wheelchair basketball in order that the maximum optimal social value can be reflected.(1) Funding is the first problem to solve. In addition, the Provincial Sports Bureau, the city CDPF not only needs to increase investment, but also should take the initiative to broaden the financing channels and get commercial sponsorship in every way.(2) To improve the system and strengthen international exchanges. From the current situations, establishing the wheelchair basketball league is not realistic. So, based on the current basis of the competitions, increase the number of national championships appropriately, so as to improve the athletes’ technical and tactical level. The national team should look further into the future and get involved in more international competitions. Shorten the gap with the advanced countries instead of focusing on Asian games.(3) Coaches of a high level professional wheelchair basketball should be cultivated. Coaches training, improving the current level of coaches can eventually establish a skillful professional and outstanding coaches with excellent skills of management.(4) The propaganda should be strengthened so that the wheelchair basketball audience coverage can be improved. Let more people know the sport. What is more important is that more support and real actions are expected. People should pay enough attention to the sport.
