As a knowledge visualization tool, mindmapping has been widely used in the field of education. It plays an active role in improving teaching effectiveness, stimulating divergent thinking, creative thinking of students, and promoting the communication ability of learners. This study attempts to introduce mindmapping to collaborative learning among college students. And this study takes the collaborative learning based on works creating in Visual Culture course for instance, to explore the influence of mind mapping for collaborative learning. The methods of literature study, survey research, experimental research and product analysis are adopted.The main research works is carried out in the three aspects:First, the study analyzes relevant research status of mindmapping and collaborative learning at home and abroad, to explore the meeting points of them Second, this study analyzes the teaching objectives, learners’characteristics, learning contents of collaborative learning in visual culture course. Then, it designs the functions of mindmapping for need. Finally, this study designs the process of collaborative learning, in which the learners use mindmapping to participate the collaborative learning. Third, this study carries out teaching experiments to verify that the mindmapping has a positive effect on improving the effects of cooperation learning.It is found that mindmapping plays a positive role in improving the effect of collaborative learning. For the process of the collaborative learning, mindmapping can promote the promotive interaction between the learners, enhance the group processing level, and make the group and individual responsibilities more clear, and help groups reached the target and then optimize the collaborative learning skills. For the goal, mindmapping is helpful to optimize the quality of the group works, mainly for improving and optimizing contents of the works systematically and logically.The innovation of this study lies in the introduction of mindmapping into the collaborative learning based on works creating. Taking into consideration of the problems in collaborative learning, a process for collaborative learning is designed accordingly and applied to the actual teaching, thus to explore a new solution to optimize the effect of collaborative learning, enhancing collaborative capabilities of learners, and to accumulate resources for subsequent in-depth studies.
