In the past decade, geographic information system has been applied in many different industries extensively, but in China, cities are developing so fast, city management departments need more spatial data to matching the existent attribute data. Because conventional address data can not been translated into spatial data, it is a key problem to informationize the city address information. After comprehensive researching with spatialization of address information home and abroad, there is proven geocoding technology abroad, whereas the situations vary in China, so those technologies can not applied directly. This paper use experiences and conventional method abroad for reference and analysis Chinese address information systematically. Based on the principle of scientificity, feasibility and popularity, a new solution was raised. After summarizing the character of Chinese address and coding rules, a new address database which fits this research was designed. On the basis of so many Chinese word segmentation algorithms, a new algorithm which suits the address situation presently was proposed. This algorithm used regular expression and Chinese word segmentation as foundation, and Chinese address can be cleaned up well with it, which actuates the matching efficiency and accuracy. On that basis, a Chinese address geocoding engine was developed, which achieved the function of geocoding. This engine can associate spatial position and attribute information, and efficiency of city information translate to spatial information was boosted. This engine has been applied in two management information systems in Wuhan and Xinjiang.
