In conventional information system, the data is mainly stored in database and is represented by boring words, which not only hides some important information behind words, but also makes the system lack the ability of visualization analysis and decision support. While Geographical Information System (GIS) can combine objective graph, images, even multimedia data with attribute words describing objects perfectly with the use of the direct geography analyzing function of the map, leading to mutual query between graphs and attribute information and in-time dynamic updating. Nowadays, the component-based GIS development based on Microsoft's COM represents the current trend of GIS.Based on the technique of Object Linked and Embedded(OLE) Automation which was provided by the world lead level Desktop Geography Information MapInfo, this system has experienced technological integration and a series of functional encapsulation. The component-based development mode has been taken to finish designing GIS based on land information. Combined with the application of GIS component, it has efficiently planned the data connection based on data collection and GIS spatial analysis, which means that it provided abundant component attributes, component methods, and it can bring convenience to users to do secondly development and it also can effectively carry out the main use of software.Combined with visual Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) techniques, the author has built an agricultural GIS for Heilongjiang province and developed some ActiveX Controllers. The agricultural GIS can be used to digitally acquire soil graphic data and to design the data structure of attribute database. The system can also roam the soil resource map in vector or raster format and smoothly zooms the displayed data dually query graphics and attribute data, realizing the mutual query between graphics and attribute data. What's more, the natural attribute of soil can be automatically converted into a direct and vivid thematic map. The GIS ActiveX Controllers have the flexible function of being secondly developed.
