Research On Digital Map Color Atlas

Map color atlas was a sort of color standard used in printing. In the practical map printing, map color atlas was used to design color in order to ensure that color can be reproduced accurately. At present, map color atlas used widely was made in the condition of traditional technology of map reproduction to ensure standardization of color sepration and compare. However, in the condition of digital production, traditional map color atlas could not adjust to demand of digital production system. Therefore, this paper based on the importance and limitation of traditional map atlas in map production and usage, analyzed the inevitability and feasibility of making map color atlas in the technology condition of integration of digital mapping and publishing, and emplodered digital map color atlas as well as validated the effect based on chromatology. The main work was following:1. The map color atlas data model based on four colors printing was presented. Rproduction intention which was fit for mapcolor space transition was selected, after an influence different reproduction intentions had on map reproduction was analyzed. Spot color mode should be founded, because black, cyan, yellow, magenta and spot color were used in the traditional map printing. The spot color which was in color gamut of printing would be replaced with four colors. Whereas, spot color would be collocted with printing ink. At the same time, computer aided map color design model besed on color harmony theoty was advanced, with which color projects would be acquired. At last, map color atlas data model based on four colors printing was presented, and the model played an important role in map printing because of ensuring color was reproduced by rule and line was presented.2. Map color database should be founeded: map color projects were presented based on analying color design character of different kinds of map. The color database aimimg at e-map and paper map should be founded. Becase people were customed to use paper map, four color printing schemes should be founded in different printing conditions. At the same time, collocation schemes and four colors superimposition schemes of spot color would be founded based on the importance of spot color in printing. Besides, spot color schemes should include PANTONE color and MUNSELL color database.3. I reseached the influence color distributing in well-proportioned and asymmetrical color space had on vision of designers. Color blocks were arrayed according to principle of vision variety was synchro with space distance based on CIEL*a*b* uniformity color space.4. Map color harmony arithmetic model was realized. I thought out color harmony arithmetic based on color harmony theory, and made map color could be selected quickly. 5. The method of converting screen color data to tiff data was reseached. Tiff format was applied in the typesetting software, and would be exported directly. While screen color data was converted to tiff data and printed, the print effect of screen color could be watched in time, which was helpful to control map color for the designers.Map digital color atlas was made and validated based on research above, which would have an important influence on map color desigen and map production for the future.
