Based on Jiangsu Province innovation fund project'The intelligent grinding methods and key technologies of precision CNC thread grinder', this paper aimed at thread grinder on-line detection and grinding wheel dressing technology. A new on-line detection device and more adaptable grinding wheel dresser were designed. These devices are beneficial to solve the existing on-line detection and grinding wheel dressing problems and can improve the quality of ball screw grinding and grinding process automation level.On the basis of summarizing modern on-line detection and grinding wheel dressing technology, ball screw helix error detection method and grinding wheel topography detection method were proposed. Through the online ball screw appearance detecting, the grinding wheel detection indirectly obtained grinding wheel topography, then whether grinding wheel need to be dressed can be judged. Meantime, a new grinding wheel dresser was designed. Different from the traditional grinding wheel dresser, the new grinding wheel dresser was made up of three-DOF Parallel mechanical structure.Aiming to the method of ball screw helix error detection, based on the selection of hardware system, the structure of helix fretting equipment was designed and analyzed. On the premise of meeting the grinding wheel dresser design requirements, its control system was built, the structure of grinding wheel dresser which composed of rotating platform, fixed platform, moving platform and telescopic platform were designed and analyzed.To test and verify the new design, the DOF of the new grinding wheel dresser was calculated, positive and negative solutions of its kinematics were analyzed and given, its workspace was also drawn by Monte Carlo Method. The results show that its workspace meets the requirement of the grinding wheel dressing. Then, through the simulation implemented of ADAMS software, the motion function of the grinding wheel dresser was verified.The error model of grinding wheel dresser was established by differentiation, the motion precision of the grinding wheel dresser was also verified through the simulation implemented by Matlab software. Finally, compared the rigid-flexible coupling dynamic simulation with the rigid body dynamic simulation results, it can demonstrate that the accuracy meets the requirement.The online detection system of screw grinder was established by the paper research, and the structure of helix fretting equipment and new grinding wheel dresser were designed. The two devices and methods have been applied for national invention patent. These are beneficial to Improve the quality of ball screw grinding and grinding process automation level.
