Research On Anti-bacterial Property Of Natural Bamboo Fiber For Textile

Natural bamboo fiber is a new type of plant fiber using for textile.Since it appeared,scholars at home and abroad have done lots of research on its preparation technology and wearability.However,there are different ideas on if bamboo fibre has natural antibiotic property and it has not made a conclusion till now.With the testing methods and standards for antibiotic property on textile products, this study find the suitable test method for the natural bamboo fiber. And then,the nature antibiotic properties of natural bamboo fiber and other fibers for textile, such as jute fiber, flax fiber, ramie fiber and regenerated bamboo fiber, are tested and compared.From the test result,the objective evaluation on the nature antibiotic property of natural bamboo fiber can be given.The research also analyzes the factors which may affect its natural antibiotic property from microstructure,hygroscopic property, morphological structure and extractive.At last, we explores the antibacterial finishing technology of natural bamboo fiber.Main conclusions as following:Quantitative test methods for antibiotic property test includ absorption test method and dynamic test method.The absorptive test method is suitable for fabric,and the fluffy fibers are difficult to be tested especially for the fibers whose water absorbability are poor not only it is difficult to test, but also the fiber and test results is not accurate.The dynamic test method has no more demand to sample shape and its water absorbability.It not only can be used for fiber materials but also for sample with arbitrary shape. In addition, the first method has higher demand for condition of experiment.But the second method can do by brief process and the result reproducible.By contrast, The absorptive test method is the antibiotic property research of natural bamboo fiber.Compared with natural cotton,the bacteriostatic rates on natural bamboo fiber against 8099, ATCC6538 and ATCC10231 are all 0.In other words,there is no natural antibiotic property on natural bamboo fiber.Jute fiber and flax fiber don't have antibacterial effect against the three test bacterias,but inhibit the growth and breeding of ATCC10231,and jute inhibition bigger than flax's. Ramie fiber has some inhibitory action against all the three test bacterias,especially against ATCC6538 the bacteriostatic rate as high as 90.2%.Regenerated bamboo fiber as an ordinary regenerated celluloee fiber, it does not favor the bacterial growth and reproduction, especially against ATCC6538 the bacteriostatic rate higher than 70%,but it can't inhibit the growth and breeding of ATCC10231 who is fungal representative.Under the scanning electron microscope,natural bamboo fiber used in textile is bunch shape,and the surface was rough,full of groove.Its single cross section appears irregular round or oval,but small lumen and thick cell wall.These similar features may be found from jute and flax fibers used in textile.The moisture regain of natural bamboo fiber is 9.80%,higher than cotton,jute and flax fibers,but lower than regenerated bamboo fiber.That is to say,natural bamboo fiber has good moisture absorption performance.Comparing the bacteriostatic rates of the bamboo with different shape and structure,it come to the same thing that they all has no antibiotic property. The extraction treatment have some effect on the antibiotic property of natural bamboo fiber.Such as cold and hot water and 1% NaOH extraction,they have a certain preventive effect on 8099 and ATCC6538, especially hot water extraction and 1% NaOH, the effect better than cold water,but that has no effectiveness on ATCC10231.By contrast,organic solvent extraction has no obvious preventive effect.So from that results,we can know that microstructure,hygroscopic property, morphological structure and extractive of natural bamboo fiber have not given itself the natural antibiotic property,instead some features and chemical composition would promote the growth of microorganism.The result shows that the natural bamboo fiber gets the better antiseptic effect after dipping treatment with non-dissolution type of antibacterial finishing agent SCJ– 2000 whose dosage is 3%o.w.f. But its washable performance will be poorer than ramie and cotton.So it remains to continue to search or develop more abiding and effective antibacterial finishing agent and methods for natural bamboo fiber.
