As the society pays more and more attention to problems of energy resources and environments, buildings, cars and so on require much more insulating properties. Showing high transparency in visible light and effective infrared insulating properties, nano-metered tin antimony oxide (ATO) is a good transparent and heat-insulating material. The preparation of transparent and heat-insulating materials from nano-ATO can effectively improve the heat-insulating of glasses, and it is simple and low in cost. So this kind of material has extremely important application value.The synthesis of waterborne polyurethane was studied in this paper firstly. Waterborne polyurethane was synthesized with isophorone di-isocyanate(IPDI), polypropylene glycol (PPG220), 2,2-bis-(hydroxylmethyl) propionicacid(DMPA), etc by acetone process. The effects of reaction conditions, DMPA content and EDA content on emulsion stability, hardness, adhesion and water absorption of the coating film were discussed. The results showed that when the reaction temperature was 80℃, DMPA content was 3.5% and EDA dosage was 1%, the waterborne polyurethane is stable, while absorption of the coating is 18.5% and hardness is B. The effects of cross linking agent, KH550, epoxy acrylate or isocyanate curing agent on the emulsion and the coating properties of waterborne polyurethane were also studied. The effect of DMPA content, dosage of sorbitol polyether and NCO/OH ratio on hardness, adhesion and water absorption of the coating film cured with isocyanate were discussed in detail. Results showed that when the DMPA content was 5%, dosage of sorbitol polyether was 25% and NCO/OH rate was 1.2, the coating hardness is 2H, water absorption is 15% and adhesion grade is 1.The transparent and heat insulation material had been developed based on nano antimony tin oxide dispersion and waterborne polyurethane. The effect of ATO content on heat insulation effect and optical transmittance was analyzed. The results of optical transmittance analysis indicated that, when the dosage of ATO was 6.0%, the heat insulation material has good spectral selectivity. The visible light transmittance and the infrared light transmittance of the coating were 64.5% and 33.5%. The heat insulating results indicated that the coatings showed good heat insulation effects. The temperature in the box with the heat insulating glass was 9.0℃lower than that of conventional glass.
