The strip steel tandem cold rolling today has some characteristics such as high rolling speed, high degree of accuracy and continuous rolling process. It forms the rolling unit which replaces the manual mode of operation by computer automation control system. The industrial control computer is the core of the hardware in the system, as the mathematic model is the core of the software.In the process of the strip cold rolling, the control of tension, thickness and shape is the core of control unit, but there are serious dynamic-coupled between these regulating variables. It will interact the independent adjustment effect, even destroy the movement of each link, until make the cold rolling mill system can not work normally. Therefore, introduce the decoupling control to the cold rolling mill system is necessary. Decouple and control the cold-rolling mill system to improve the control accuracy of shape and thickness and achieve the production requirement in base of building comprehensive coupling model for cold rolling mill.This article introduces the importance of rolling mill model, conventional modeling methods and development trend of computer model firstly; Expounds essential parameter and basal equation in the rolling process and rolling manufacturing technique secondly; On this basis analysis the coupled relation between controlling quantity and regulating quantity, build comprehensive coupling model about shape, thickness and tension, as the theory model foundation of decoupling control study.Subsequently, to combine rolling theory, investigate the routine decoupling control methods, such as diagonal matrix decoupling method. Finally use the first method to decouple the comprehensive coupling model of rolling mill system. Design applied decoupling controller incorporating dates of eight roll five stand tandem cold rolling mill and simulate with MATLAB. The result shows that complex coupling control system can improve the control precision of thickness and shape for the eight roll five stand tandem cold rolling mill effectively.
