Extra heavy floor milling and boring machine is one of the most important heavymachines, which are applied in various fields, such as energy, metallurgy of iron and steel,railway services, ships manufacture, aviation or space and flying, steel making. Its mostimportant structural feature is supported by column, moving cantilevered parts arecomposed of ram and headstock. The advantages of this kind of structure is the increasingof work space, but the disadvantages is that, position accuracy of headstock andmovement accuracy of ram will directly effect rotating accuracy of spindle which effectsthe machining precision of machine seriously. Therefore, it must take some appropriatemeasures to compensate the deflection.The deformation of the affecting machining precision consists of two parts (1)thedeformation due to the weight of the structure and ram moving which lead to the shift ofthe center of gravity of the headstock, ram and other moving parts;(2)the defection of ram.In this paper, FEA software ABAQUS is applied to calculate the stress, elasticdeformation and deformation compensation about extra heavy floor milling and boringmachine. The studies are listed as following(1)The stress and deformation of milling and boring machine without equilibrantforceCalculate the stress and deformation of milling and boring machine for differentheight of headstock and different extended length of ram, the deformation at the end ofram is derived.(2)Calculation of equilibrant forceCalculate equilibrant force of deformation about compensation system(compensationof wire rope and rod) for different extended position of ram, and a polynomial is derivedby use of the data of equilibrant force.(3)The stress and deformation of milling and boring machine with equilibrant forceImpose the equilibrant forces on the finite element model, and recalculate the stressand deformation of milling and boring machine, by comparing the results without equilibrant force with the results with equilibrant force, the compensation effect isassessed.Results show the deformation of ram for milling and boring machine do not meetthe requirement of deformation before imposing compensate force, and results meetnational machinery industry standard when imposing compensate force, the level of stressof milling and boring machine is low. it means that deformation compensation program isreasonable for milling and boring machine, compensation effect is very obvious. Thismethod provides a useful reference for the study of similar problem.
