With the rapid development of industry, the type and quantity of high sulfate wastewater increases gradually. Because sulfate pollution is latent and refractory, the treatment will be more difficult once a large area of pollution is formed. Therefore, the study on effective control technology of sulfate pollution is significant. In recent years, IC reactor is widely concerned, and has been successfully applied to the treatment of wastewater from some industries, which produce beer, paper and so on. But the treatment of high sulfate organic wastewater using IC anaerobic reactor has rarely been researched, so the study on IC reactor has practical significance. In this paper, flour water containing sulfate was used as simulate wastewater. The operating performance of normal up-flow anaerobic reactor was researched at different influent concentration. The results show that: When influent COD concentration was 3340mg/L and SO42- concentration was 1352mg/L, the treatment effect of normal up-flow anaerobic reactor was the best, the average COD and SO42- removal efficiencies were 88% and 73%, respectively; When influent COD concentration was 5434mg/L and SO42- concentration was 2423mg/L, both the average removal concentration of COD and SO42- reached the maximum; When influent COD concentration was 7396mg/L and SO42- concentration was 3034mg/L, the treatment effect of normal up-flow anaerobic reactor was the worst, which indicated that the influent concentration had reached the maximum limit. On the basis of experimental research of normal up-flow anaerobic reactor, the influence of HRT, COD/SO42- ratio and temperature on treatment effect and operating performance of IC anaerobic reactor were focused on studying. The optimal process parameters of IC reactor were as following: HRT was 2d, COD/SO42- ratio was 6.1 (influent COD of about 7400mg/L and SO42- of about 1200mg/L) and temperature was 36℃. Under the optimal experimental conditions, there were better treatment effect and more stable operation situation.
