The replication technology of multi-color printing can expand the output colorgamut and make the color closer to the original by adding other colors into thetradtional four-color printing and using the high accuracy screening technology, theadded color can be regarded as a primary color. The multi-color separationtechnology is the most important part of multi-color printing. Comparing tofour-color printing, the multi-color printing has more primaries, as a result themulti-color separation algorithm get more complex. Since the Neugebauer separationmodel has sufficient theoretical basis, and is more accurate after some modifications,the paper selects it to do research on multi-color separation. And in this paper alsouese color subarea theory to do study on how to sepatate color exactly throughfour-color separation method to multi-color separation.The main works of this paper include:①The common used four-color separation algorithms and color subarea theoryare researched and analysed, on the basis of it this paper selects the subareaNeugebauer to do research on multi-color separation.②The common used modifiction methods of Neugebauer are analysed in theoryand verified with experiments. According to the experiments, the paper uses nexponent subarea modification to Neugebauer equation.③The color subarea theory is analysed, after drawing the gamut points diagram,it is found that there is a sharing area nearby the boundaries of subareas. Accordingto this a method of mathematical description of subarea boundary is suggested.④The model of multi-color separation is built in programming and evaluated.The main innovations of this paper include:①A viewpoint of n exponentsubarea modification is proposed.②A method of description of subarea boundary isproposed.③A new algorithm of cell searching based on constraint conditions isproposed.Achievements on research of this paper include: the Neugebauer multi-colorseparation model based on double subarea modification is commensurate with otherseparation model after the examination of experiments. The result proves thepracticality of this model, this method can be used in multi-color separation orhifi-color separation, even the digital printing or ink jet printing.
