The thickness of cold roll plates is one of important quality index of cold roll plates. Plates automatic gauge control system is the most important part of cold mill train control system. With the development of science and technology, all kinds of automatic gauge control system have emerged. A single stand in the cold mill train, especially the first stand that eliminates the vast majority of material thickness error, no longer use a single gauge control system. In the actual production, it provides good conditions for rolling out high-precision plates that manifold synthetical automatic gauge control systems based on gauge control strategies. It's important for the theoretical analysis and application research of synthesis gauge control system.The background of this paper is derived from Northeast University with a steel mill in cooperation project, to the first stand AGC system of the steel mill's 1700 cold roll mill for the research subject, furtherly researches the FB-AGC, MS-AGC and the main component and function of the synthesis automatic gauge control system based on that. According to the basic rolling theory and control theory, absorbing the principle and component of each subsystem of the synthetial automatic gauge control system, This paper analysises each component of the 1700 cold roll mill the first stand automatic gauge control system and derives correlation model based on the absorptions and current technical information.For reseaching the control performance of each automatic gauge control of the first stand in actual work situation, this paper analyses problems and turbulences that may rase in actual rolling process, and establishes simulation objects of each gauge control system. Through the simulation, this paper researches performance and feature of the system, especially analyses and summarizes control performance of synthesis automatic gauge control system in the phases of steady rolling velocity. Meantime, this paper attempts to solve the problem of poor stability that caused by Smith preestimator model mismatches in the original system with fuzzy PI controller,and designs FB-AGC and synthesis AGC fuzzy PI controller.Then this paper simulates the control performance after using fuzzy PI controller. The results show that the use of fuzzy PI has a better effect on improving the stability of the system.The results of performace analysis of synthesis gauge control which basea on FB-AGC and MS-AGC in the phases of steady rolling velocity and the The results of using fuzzy PI in AGC have some reference value in actual project.
