PURPOSETo study the ocular biological parameters of cataract patients in Hainan Province. To estab-lish the reference range in clinical diagnosis-treatment for multiple indicatrixes of the ocular pa-rameters among cataract patients in Hainan Province.METHODSThis study included 8849 eyes of 8849 cataract patients in Hainan Province form March 2009 to June 2010.The research items included: age, gender, operative eye, naked visual acuity and intraocular pressure, anterior chamber depth (ACD), lens thickness (LT), vitreous cavity depth (VCD), axial length (AL), horizontal corneal curvature (K1), vertical corneal curvature (K2), corneal endo-thelial cell density (CD), central corneal thickness (CCT). All data were used the SPSS15.0 statistical software for statistical analysis.RESULTS1. Mean age of cataract patients was 71.2±10.0 years. The female (F) mean age (71.4±9.6 years) was greater than the male (M) mean age (70.8±10.7), (t test, P=0.017).2. The mean ocular parameters: CCT (501.12±34.95μm), CECC (2550.7±375.0 cells per mm2), K1 (44.21±1.85D), K2 (44.77±1.77D), ACD (3.205±0.431mm), LT (4.300±0.629mm), VCD (15.878±1.231mm), AL (23.380±1.229mm).3. The male cataract patients older than 50 years had longer ACD, LT, VCD, AL than female patients. The CCT of male patients was thicker than female. The female corneal curvature was more curving than male. There had similar CECC between female and male.4. The reference range in clinical diagnosis-treatment for multiple indicatrixes of the ocular parameters among cataract patients older than 50 years (multiple indicatrixes percentile method): ACD (M:1.88~4.21mm, F:1.87~4.13mm), LT (M:2.26~6.36mm, F:2.58~6.19mm), VCD (M:13.90~21.28mm, F:13.45~22.27mm), AL (M:21.50~29.32mm, F:21.11~29.78mm), CECC (M≥1694 cells per mm2, F≥1611 cells per mm2),CCT (M:421~600μm, F:411~588μm),K1 (M:38.49~47.88D, F:39.25~49.25D), K2 (M:39.79~49.25D, F:40.87~49.87D).CONCLUSIONSFrom the first large sample study that analysed the ocular biological parameters among cat-aract patient, it could obtain detailed data. Furthermore, it was the first time to establish the ref-erence range in clinical diagnosis-treatment for multiple indicatrixes of the ocular parameters among cataract patients older than 50 years. The results, the first of its kind in this field, could provide a reference for the diagnosis and treatment among cataract patients.
