Objective To observe the effect of oral and washing with shujinhuoxue decoction an(?) shujinhuoxue lotion respectively on functional recovery after total knee replacement, and t(?) investigate the mechanism of this prescription, in order to provide a theoretical basis fo clinical use. Methods Fifty patients were selected, in the orthopedic department of our hospital, whon underwent total knee replacement for severe osteoarthritis, according to inclusion an(?) exclusion criterion. They were randomized into a treatment group (oral and washing wit(?) Chinese Herbs) and a control group (conventional rehabilitation group), each group had 2: patients respectively, according to chronological admission time. There were no statisticall(?) significant differences between the groups according to age, gender, body weight, duratio(?) time. All patients underwent total knee replacement, and all undertook conventiona rehabilitation training after surgery. Patients in the treatment group took shujinhuoxu(?) decoction the second day after surgery, with 7 days of treatment time, while the control grou(?) didn't. Two weeks after surgery, all patients removed the stitches. Then, the treatment grou(?) used shujinhuoxue lotion to wash their knee, and the control group didn't. The Hospital fo Special Surgery Knee Score (HSS) sheet was adopted. We record the scores of all patients, the admission time, in the 2nd.3rd,4th,12th weeks after surgery, respect. The Statistica analysis was performed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), versio(?) 13.0.Results (1)No significant difference was found in preoperative HSS scores between the tw(?) groups (P>0.5);(2)Compared with the control group, the HSS scores in the treatment grou(?) were found to be significantly different in the 3rd,4th weeks after surgery (p< 0.05) (3)Significant differences were observed in the treatment group versus the control group fo pain, disability, knee joint ROM in the 3rd,4th weeks after surgery (p< 0.05);(4)The HS(?) scores were found no significant differences between the two groups in 12th weeks.(5)N(?) side-effects were found in the treatment group. Conclusions (1)The shujinhuoxue decoction for oral administration can relieve pain, an(?) improve function following TKR. (2)The shujinhuoxue lotion washing can obviously reliev pain and diminish swelling, and improve function following TKR.
