ObjectiveTo analyze the relationship between carotid artery atherosclerosis and the young patients with acute cerebral infarction according to carotid artery intima-middle thickness (IMT) data by ultrasonography method and the levels of highly sensitive C creative protein (hs-CRP) in serum.Methods40 subjects treated in our neurological wards between July 2009 and February 2010 were enrolled (23 males,17 females). The ages varied from 18 to 45 years old( average 40.17 years old). They were all diagnosed according to the standards revised at The 4th Conference of Cerebrovascular Disease, and were all checked by CT and/or MRI. The subjects were divided into two groups(A and B).The number of persons in group A with cerebral vascular risk factors of hypertention, diabete, abnormal lipid was 20. Group B included 20 persons without cerebral vascular risk factors of hypertention, diabete, abnormal lipid. Control group (C) included 20 healthy persons(12 males,8 females) during the the corresponding period in the outpatient. The ages varied from 18 to 45 years old(average 40.17 years old), too. No abnormal results were found in head by CT examination. The carotid artery, carotid swollen and the internal carotid artery intima-middle thickness were measured by the color doppler ultrasound. Average value was taken notes. The levels of fasting hs-CRP in serum were detected with turbidimetric analysis of immunity projection.Results1.The group of acute cerebral infarction and the control group were compaired with the carotid artery IMT and the levels of hs-CRP in serum. The carotid artery IMT and the levels of hs-CRP in serum in the group of 40 persons of acute cerebral infarction were significantly higher than that in the control group. There were significant differences in the carotid artery intima-medio thickness and the levels of hs-CRP in serum between the two groups(P<0.01).2.The group A and the group B were compaired with the carotid artery IMT,the levels of hs-CRP in serum and the neurological dysfunction scale score (SSS).With the increasing of cerebral vascular risk factors, the internal carotid artery intima-middle thickness and the levels of hs-CRP in serum increased, and the neurological dysfunction scale score lowered significantly. There were statistical significances for the data compaired between the two group(P < 0.05).3. The correlation analysis between the levels of hs-CRP in serum and carotid intima-media thickness was done as well. With the increasing of carotid intima-media thickness, the levels of hs-CRP in serum increased. The level of the CRP in serum were correlated positively with the carotid intima-media thickness (P < 0.05).ConclusionThe level of the CRP in serum and carotid intima-media thickness increases in cerebral infarction in the young patients without cerebral vascular risk factors, and they are correlated positively with hypertention, diabete, abnormal lipid, which indicates that the high level of CRP in serum can be a cerebral vascular risk factor of cerebral infarction in the young patients and can lead to increasing of carotid intima-media thickness and deterioration in cerebral cnfarction in the young patients.
