Background and Objectives: Lung cancer is the world harm to human health and lives of one of the largest malignant tumors, the mortality rates caused by the death of the first types of malignant tumors. In recent years, the incidence and mortality of lung cancer increase rapidly, it has become the major reason in human cancer deaths, but, most patients with little symptoms and signs in early and mid-term tumor. At the time of diagnosis it is already advanced and lost opportunities for radical resection. Therefore, it is of great significance to raise the early diagnostic and treatment levels of lung cancer. Serum tumor marker(TM) is one of the major research topics of modern oncology while the serum detection of lung cancer has become an important target for the diagnosis of the malignancy. However,detection of single TM has low sensitivity and specificity, it is limit to diagnosis of lung cancer early. So we conducted joint detection of the tissue polypeptide specific antigen (TPS), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), cytokeratin fragment antigen21-1 (CYFRA21-1) and neuron specific enolase (NSE) in this mortal disease for evaluating value and significance of this means in the diagnosis of lung cancer early.Methods: Consecutive one hundred and fourteen inpatients in the Department of Respiratory, the 1st Hospital of Chaohu City were investigated from February 2009 to February 2010, including seventy-two patients with lung cancer, Forty-two patients with benign lung diseases. The same time, we investigated thirty healthy peoples selected randomly. we detected the level of the TPS,CEA,CYFRA21-1,NSE in serum in three groups respectively. Results:⑴Serum concentrations of four tumor markers in patients with lung cancer were significantly higher than those with benign lung diseases and healthy group (p<0.001).⑵The positive rates of CEA in adenocarcinoma and NSE in SCLC were 85.7%,78.5%respectively, they were significantly higher than the other type of Pathology with significant difference (p<0.001).CYFRA21-1 in the squamous cell carcinoma were higher than that of other pathological types, but the difference was not significant (p>0.05).TPS in the positive rates of each group no significant difference(p>0.05).⑶Four tumor markers in serum with lung cancer patients concentration and positive rate has increased with the clinical stage of the rising trend. TPS, CEA and CYFRA21-1(P<0.05) during the stageⅣand I had significant differences. NSE in different clinic stages has no significant differences (P> 0.0 5).⑷Serum tumor markers for individual positive rate is low, while the combined detection of lung cancer can improve the detection sensitivity and specificity. The sensitivity of TPS+CYFRA21-l, CYFRA21-l+CEA, NSE+CEA, TPS+CYFRA21-l+NSE were 93.1%, 69.3%, 68.0%, 100%, respectively, and the specific were 83.8%, 70.7%, 82.2%, 70.2%, respectively, sensitivity and specificity of combined detection were more higher than detection of single TM.Conclusion: .Serum concentrations of TPS, CEA, CYFRA21-1 and NSE are helpful in diagnosis of lung cancer. Combined measurement of multiple serum tumor markers significantly increases the sensitivity and specificity of diagnose of lung cancer. In addition, it is also useful to identify cancer clinical stages and pathologic category.
