Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) and prescriptions are valuable resources ofthe science of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The names of TCM and prescriptions is animportant part of the vocabulary of professional medical field and falls into the categoryof proper nouns. It is also an important part of the research on names in traditionallinguistics. The naming of TCM and prescriptions has its own distinct characteristicmeanwhile embodies the commonalities of substantive nouns, it also contains deep andprofound cultural connotations.This article is an overall and systematic study of how the168Chinese traditionalmedicine and200prescriptions in <<Synopsis of Golden Chamber>>(<<S.G.C.>>)were named. Thereby summarizes the features in naming TCM and prescriptions in<<S.G.C.>> and discusses the embodied cultural connotations in depth, trying to have afull revelation of the profound TCM culture.Chapter1: IntroductionTo review and analyze the predecessor's research on naming TCM andprescriptions in <<S.G.C.>>, meanwhile introducing and illustrating the references ofthis dissertation and its research contents, objectives, significance, theories, studymethods and materials.Chapter2: A study on the naming of TCM in <<S.G.C.>>To study the naming of TCM in <<S.G.C.>>, summarizing10naming motivationsbased on form, color, efficacy, taste, space, time, application, property, culture,and othercomprehensive basis. Thus coming to a conclusion that the naming of TCM has suchcharacteristics as: figuratively, oneness and corporeality.Chapter3: A study on the naming of prescriptions in <<S.G.C.>>To study the naming of prescriptions in <<S.G.C.>>, summarizing5namingmotivations based on medicine names, function, amount, color, and othercomprehensive basis. Thus coming to a conclusion that the naming of prescriptions hassuch characteristics as: brevity, intuitive and pragmatic. Chapter4: How Chinese traditional culture affect the naming of TCM and prescriptionsin <<S.G.C.>>To discuss the relationship between the names of TCM and prescriptions in<<S.G.C.>> and Chinese traditional customs; Taoism and worship of dragon andphoenix. Thus to have a better understanding of the deep and profound connation that isembodied in the names of TCM and prescriptions.Chapter5: conclusionA brief conclusion of the above.
