Being a linguistic phenomenon, nomination is also concerning culture. Names of restaurants, so far as a social language, undoubtedly should deserve our research, which calls the public's attention onto it. Based on linguistic research, the paper analyzes 2092 names of the restaurants in Nanchang City, in which quantitative and qualitative analytic methods are used.It develops its elaboration on the names of restaurants into some parts, the generic names of these restaurants, trade names, specific names and the full names of the restaurant in these areas. The study is started from phonetics, grammar, semantics, pragmatics. In the paper, the distribution of the generic names and the trade names are discussed. And the more detailed analyses of the proper names is studied from the temperament and semantic features of lexical form, then we see how they reflect local characteristics. As for the restaurant full names, we think about them from the number of syllables and pragmatic strategies . The distribution of the number of syllables is studied and we try to find their causes; for its use of the pragmatic strategy, we mainly analyze from the default, the vagueness, and the rhetoric. At last the thesis is studied from the socio-cultural and psychological aspects, and we try to find the characteristics embodied by the restaurant names in Nanchang City.
