Chinese characters'mastering of Chinese learners from foreign countries directly affects the overall enhancement of comprehensive skills including listening, speaking, reading and writing skill. Compared to the teaching of other elements, the teaching of Chinese characters in China is still in an unsatisfactory situation. Teaching materials are often the reflection of the teaching ideas. We can get the reference significance of Chinese characters' teaching from the thought of designing and the designing of the exercises in teaching materials which is the base of seeking the reasonable teaching methods. Therefore, the designing of Chinese characters' teaching materials should be taken seriously in the field of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. On the base of summarizing other people' researching results, present conditions of Chinese characters' teaching and the publishing conditions of Chinese characters' teaching materials, we analyze the characteristics of learners who are from Europe and America in which learners don't use the Chinese characters and are from the South Korea and Japan in which learners use. the Chinese characters, and then analyze the difficulties that learners have in the process of learning. We also use related questionnaire to support our study. Connecting these problems that we research, we point out some problems that we should pay more attention to in the process of teaching materials compiling in order to promote the development of the resources of Chinese characters' teaching.The main points of the thesis are that the existing Chinese characters' teaching materials in China can't make learners who are of different backgrounds of mother language, different learning purpose and different needs of learners satisfactory, and then the contents of the teaching materials are lack of the scientific nature and the practical nature and lots of advanced achievements are not used in the process of compiling teaching materials. In addition, the teaching strategies about the teaching of Chinese characters in China are not applied enough.The main conclusions of the thesis include that we should pay more attention to the study of the users of the teaching materials and the differences of learners in the different background of mother language. And then, we should use some practical teaching strategies about the teaching of Chinese characters especially in the respect of writing Chinese characters, and adopt many kinds of ways to practice the writing skill of Chinese characters in the whole process of the teaching.
