| There has been a close connection between China and Japan since ancient times. Especially during the recent times, there are great amount of Chinese travels that have taken forms, as it has become a fashion that Japanese scholars came to China for a travel.Based upon Tourist Journey by Oka -Senjin,a sinologist during the latter part of Meiji period, Travels in China by Akutagawa-Ryunosuke during the Taisho period and My Travel Notes abroad by Yashikawa-Kojiro, who studied abroad in China during the latter part of Taisho period and the former part of Showa period. By means of close reading, the emphasis of this article is laid upon their travels in Beijing and Shanghai. The interest in China as contained in the texts formed in the special temporal background is to be studied, through an analysis of such a historical fact that they had a local examination in Beijing and Shanghai, and that they also had a communication with Chinese people. Oka -Senjin in his communication with Wang Tao and Zhang Huanlun, expresses his melancholy that China has been declining and, in his communication with Sheng Xuanhuai and Li Hongzhang, further laments the political short-sightedness of those Chinese officers. Akutagawa-Ryunosuke, in his acquaintance with Zhang Binlin and Zheng Xiaoxu, expresses his disappointment in them, but he finds the future of China in Li Renjie. His study in Peking University leaves Yashikawa-Kojiro an unforgettable memory, and his travel south of China deepens his love for China, so as that he finds China as his "native love". |
