Edward Grieg was one of the outstanding representatives of Nordic Nationalism during the 19th century European Romanticism, and he was the founder of Norwegian Nationalism. His music was rooted in Norwegian folk music, and communicated the flavor of the times and the national characteristic, for example, Peer Gynt Suite, Concerto in A Minor for Piano, Lyric Pieces, and so on.Edward Grieg wrote forty piano music woks in all his life, in addition, Slatter (Op.72) was the one of his most important work that he wrote in his later years, it included seventeen piano dances which were arranged on the base of the folk dances.Although the experts of music have already recognized the worth of academic of his music, his this work is still not be propagated widely and known. This paper aims to introduce and discuss Slatter (Op.72), and understand further of the nationalism style of Grieg's music through discussing the performance tips.The thesis will start with two clues, one is the background, the other one is the history and the style of Norwegian folk dance. Then the paper will analysis of the Norwegian nationalism style of Slatter (Op.72). Finally, it will make the induction summary which got through by the actual performance experience, and grasp the music work from the performance point of view.
