China's economic reform and opening-up policy has brought rapid and significant developments into all fields, including economics, politics and culture, and at the same time, has proposed the huge demands for English professionals. In order to meet the requirements from the entire society, as a crucial element of the advanced education, the college education has devoted numerous funds and manpower onto the English education. Meanwhile, English writing is of vital importance and one of the basic skills that English learner should acquire. It is the basic skills of Anglo-American philology Accomplishment University. Undoubtedly, English writing is an embodiment not only to the college students' comprehensive ability, but also an important aspect of college English education. Although there are more and more the intense studies concerning English-writing-teaching in recent years, the conditions are not so satisfactory in china. In order to change the situation, this thesis has designed an empirical experiment: employing the new teaching model in the classroom with its major findings derived as follows:The new teaching model is effective in improving students'writing proficiency and arousing their interests of composing. From the statistics point of view, the writing scores of the students who have received the new teaching model differ significantly from those who haven't.Based on the scores of distinguishing English level test, two parallel classes are chosen to take part in the experiment. One of them is the experimental class and the new teaching model practice is adopted to carry out writing teaching, and the other is the controlled class. The experimental class included 13 females and 42 males, while the controlled class included 8 females and 44 males. There is no obvious divergence in their English proficiency according to their English scores of distinguishing English level test.This paper consists of seven chapters: Chapter one introduces the background of the research, putting forward the importance of English writing, the main reasons for the deficiency of students'English writing, and describing the significance of the research. Chapter two offers research about writing, the process approach and the length approach both at home and abroad. Chapter three talks about the theories underlying the process approach and the length approach. Chapter four raises the research questions, methods, subjects and textbook of the study. Chapter five analyzes the relevant data. Chapter six talks about major findings and implications. Chapter seven deals with the limitation of the study and suggestions for further research.
