| Eating and drinking activity is one of the most basic life style of human beings. Both Chinese and western have a different point of view on expressing eating and drinking. The thesis, from the perspective of eating and drinking verbs, is finished based on the contrastive language theory, semantic field theory, cognitive language theory to analyze and contrast. The thesis established the semantic field of eating and drink verbs of Chinese and English fristly. According to the sememe analysis theory, analyze and contrast the eating and drinking verbs between Chinese and English in lateral and vertical. This thesis includes five parts.The first part is the introduction. It briefly introduces the general motivation and purpose of present research, summarizes the value of research papers, methods, and defines the principles of classification.The second part is that analyze and contrast the eating and drinking semantic field between Chinese and English. The thesis classify semantic on Chinese and English eating verbs and define the basic semantic field of Chinese and English eating verbs. According to the sememe analysis theory and Fu huaiqing's semantic analysis theory, not only distinguish of the synongms on each language, but also contrast the eating and drinking verbs Chinese and English.The third part is that contrast the eating and drinking metaphors in the two languages. Based on metaphors and plenty of examples this thesis investigates the similarities and differences between English and Chinese eating and drinking metaphors from the cognitive perspective. The the universal metaphors originate the common experience of our human being. Different cultural backgrounds, cognitive components and habit of thought cause the individuality of metaphor.The fourth part is that verbs of eating and drinking in two languages have pragmatic functions and cultural significance. These verbs are not only analogy things, express one's emotion and make points, but they are also reflect different values of life and different culture between Chinese and English.The last Part contains conclusions. Sum up the thesis research results. |
