Man's growingly ripe and deepening understanding of the self works as a main driving force for political civilization progress and social development. Since late Qing Dynasty, the being of citizen subjectivity and the establishment of its subject position have always been influencing the overall social transition process. The fundamental requirements of socialism denote that the formation of individual subjectivity must make man its starting point and ultimate destination as well. Only in this way can a political order of the people, by the people and for the people can be fostered and people's rights protection can be best realized. As for its practical meaning, China's cultural transition is continuing, among which the transition of political culture is particularly significant. This achievement owes to China's guidelines--socialism, differing from those of most nations. To realize socialism, China has to, first of all, thoroughly liberate working force and productive forces. In over three decades, China's productive forces improves a lot, while the emancipation of people remains at a stand. A research on political subjectivity in social transition helps researchers better understand the logics in the transitional process of social culture and social construction since late Qing Dynasty, get clear of the international backgrounds and special situations of China, and finally provide references for today's political reform and the continuity of national civilization. Meanwhile, as the author mentioned earlier, the purpose of such research is for the advancement of socialist political civilization. And the aim of this political civilization is to liberate people. Then, how can people be really liberated? The elimination of classes is just a institutional release. Therefore, from individual perspective, the liberation of people can be realized only through changing thoughts which means making everyone recognize their social subject position--enhancing the sense of citizen rights--and ultimately forming citizen subjectivity. The thesis consists of six chapters.Chapter one analyses the research value of the theory of subjectivity, its background of emergence and development and its existing conditions. It is therefore concluded that fostering citizen subjectivity is of significant importance to political modernization; it also infers that citizen subjectivity will give impetus to the reform of China's socialist system.Chapter two discusses the general theory of citizen subjectivity. Based on the philosophical analysis of the theory, this chapter further interprets what is human from philosophical perspective and what is subject from political perspective and the value of theory, which makes clear the political significance of citizen subjectivity.Chapter three focuses on the establishment of the value of citizen subjectivity in China's social transition. Against the background of China's social transition, this chapter investigates the establishment of the value of citizen subjectivity in China and the demand of contemporary subject value through analyzing the requests we are facing in politics, economy, culture and other aspects.Chapter four examines the cultural tradition constructed by the subjectivity of Chinese citizens. This chapter argues that since that Chinese traditional values lack a sense of individual, the construction of Chinese citizen subjectivity is critical to the socialist political civilization in China.Chapter five studies the problems arising in fostering citizen subjectivity. Aided by a social investigation on basic political values and political intentions of Chinese citizens, this chapter makes clear theoretical and practical problems China may face in building subjectivity of its citizens and all possible social problems caused by lack of such subjectivity.Chapter six proposes solutions under the guidance of the logic of Chinese characteristics. Based on Marxist socialism theory and practical logic in building China's socialist society, this chapter provides references for today's China.
