As we all know, writing is a very complicated thinking activity. As one of the ways to express students'ideas, writing, is attached much importance to by educators. Naturally, developing students'writing skills becomes the main task of English teaching. In recent years, many researchers have been devoted to the study of writing approaches, discovering the different ways of teaching in English writing. In terms of the present situation of students' writing ability, the commonly advocated process approach dominates the writing teaching in high school. It gains the attention of the teachers and students as well. Process approach focuses on "the process of the writing. Students learn writing strategies in the process through various writing activities and trainings. Students are so well aware of the writing stages that they are increasingly interested in writing and their motivation to write is encouraged, the outcome of which is that the improvement of students'writing ability comes to reality. However, the effect of applying the process approach to English writing teaching is not as obvious as expected, and there exist many problems. One of the reasons is that many students think it difficult to write owing to their limited vocabulary and deficient language accumulation. In addition, the traditional product approach still influences the beliefs of teachers and students. Product approach confines its teaching aim to the written product. The traditional teacher-centered teaching mode increases students'dependence on the teacher, making them the passive recipient of language. The essay aims to introduce the stages of process writing approach through the literature review and test the hypothesis that process approach can spur students'motivation and interest through the questionnaire. By collecting the data of writing scores in the writing tests to test if their writing is improved. Finally, the conclusion is made:process approach can improve students'writing ability effectively.
