Cooperative Learning, a newly born teaching mode, is used more and more widely in the world in recent years for its creation and effectiveness. Cooperative Learning originated from American during 1970s,and was introduced to China during 1980s and 1990s. During recent years, Cooperative Learning has been widely applied in America, Israel, New Zealand, Sweden, Japan, Canada, Australia, and some other countries. This research aims to carry out further research on Cooperative Learning and to improve senior high school students'learning ability. Otherwise, the author hopes to provide some suggestions for the current senior high school English teaching, to change the current teaching model from teacher-centered to student-centered, and to improve teachers'teaching efficiency and students'learning ability. Adopting CL in senior high school English teaching and learning is helpful to promote the interaction of students'affection and emotion and to emphasize the learner's role during the process of learning. The author, by combining the theories and its theories foundation—Cooperative Learning and Instructional Design, makes a design for Grade One Changyuan No. 10 Senior High School. The textbook used in this thesis is Book One of PEP, and the selected text is Unit Three. For this study, we put forward the following three questions:(1)What effects does CL have on the learning attitude of Grade One in senior high school?(2)What effects does CL have on the academic achievements of Grade One in senior high school?(3) How do the English teachers in Grade One appraise CL?The research subjects are the students of Class One and Class Two and the teachers from the classes of Grade One of Senior High School of Xinxiang Changyuan No. 10 in 2010. The research period is from September, 2010 to January, 2011, which is based on constructivism theory, cognitive development theory, and Vygostky's theory of ZPD (Zone of proximal development). The research procedures are as the following:(1)Do the classroom observation on the traditional teaching model(Sep. ---Oct. 2010)(,2)Design and carry out classroom activities every two class based on cooperative learning theory according to different teaching contents(Nov. ---Dec. 2010)(,3)Get students'feedback after activities and consult with Department Director after analyzing, (4) Do questionnaire to Students at the end of the term, (5) Test to Students at the end of the term, (6) Interview teachers at the end of the term. This experiment shows that, by adopting CL, it is helpful to improve students'learning attitudes and their academic achievement, otherwise, not only the author is interested in CL, but also the other English teachers in Grade One are interested in it as well.By apply Cooperative Learning strategy into senior high school English teaching; it is favorable toward improving students'confidence and facilitating their interaction of affection and emotion. In the process of transforming from teacher-centered to student-centered teaching model, teacher should pay more attention on students which is good to improve teaching effectiveness and learning abilities comprehensively. Based on the above three questions, in the course of do the research, the author also puts forward some suggestions for the application of Cooperative Learning into senior high school English teaching.
