For language researchers, Language Transfer has been a controversial topic in the second language learning. Since 1970s as the emergency and development of Applied Linguistics, the effect of transfer on foreign language learning has been approved and valued by most people. The researches on foreign language teaching and second language learning show that transfer often make effects when the first language makes a transition to the second language. Positive transfer is believed to help the language learners to study new language;while the negative transfer is seen to be one of interference. Transfer happens in the studying course of learners in all ages. There are clear inferences of transfer in all the systems of foreign language learning. This research is under the guidance of language transfer theories. By testing the Grade Three students' syntactic exercises of two classes, the writer explored how they master the syntactic. After the test, the data about the error rate in students' syntactic exercises were gethered, assayed and summed up the main factors and imprtances in the senior high school entrance examination. In order to make a study of the share of errors that caused by mother tongue negative transfer, sum up the influence of mother tongue negative transfer on English syntactic studying in junior high schools, some questionnaires were sent to students. By testing all the syntactic that listed in the curriculum criterion of junior high schools, this research gets the following conclusions: Students mastered the imperative sentences, the alternative interrogations and special questions better. For the object clauses, the attributive clauses, the exclamative clauses and subject-predicate agreement, students make lots of errors.Form the students' error questionnaires, the writer find that mother tongue positive transfer is the second biggest reason for errors only under the unknown grammar usages. But for different syntactic items, the influence is also different. This research assayed some syntactic items which are easily influenced by positive transfer. These conclusions lead the writer to think about the specific measures to make a good use of the mother tongue transfer on English Syntactic Studying in Junior High Schools. Combined with teaching practice, teachers should over emphasize the differences between the Chinese syntactic and English syntactic and avoid the negative transfer effectively.
